Redwood Fur is preparing for its CD release tonight. It is more or less the one-year anniversary of this project for me. What began as a trio evolved into a sextet of songwriters and performers. Tonight "The Grass Is Greener" makes its entrance as a collection of carnivalistic folk rock styled songs, with "The Prison Song," a track that captures a vibe of muppets going to jail, "Just a Way to Pass the Time," a song that evokes the desire to fight off being jaded, and "Fall Asleep Instead," which portrays a classic image of some kind of country bumpkin femme fatale playing love games in the big city. "One Night in Eureka" is what I would call the single on the CD, and it features Sarah Grebe on vocals. The carnivalistic theme is definitely at its apex with this tune, with a section in the middle that gives you a Mario Kart feel, but within the a certain channel. It's nuttiness that you can trust, I would say. It closes out with "What It Meant to Me," which is kind of an opportunistic road trippers lament.
Overall, the songs are fun and easy to approach. They are pretty much friendly overall. I am excited to share the Crepe Place space tonight with Buckeye Knoll and The Brothers Comatose.
