UC Santa Cruz: UNDER CONSTRUCTION

The physical construction at the University of California, Santa Cruz may well be synonymous with the university's theoretical construction in the era of building a new left in America. The McHenry Library, Health Center, and road work on Heller Drive are torn up and being re-made, as thinkers and theorists are frantically trying to re-re-re-re-re-define what is means to live in a globalized economy with no informational boundaries.

The repetition of buzz words in the Humanities department mimic the percussive sputtering of jack hammers, the timidity of leftist rhetoricians resembles the work crews on lunch break; there is work to be done, but ten more minutes never hurt.

As a student of UCSC, I am looking forward to the construction work being completed so that finally the union of the material and epistemological aesthetics of our unique campus might be renewed.
